Exclamation Are laggy games the future of Guild Wars?

I played Factions last night for the first time seriously since buying it in March\April, and could not believe how laggy the game was. Ive been playing prophecies for a year now, and never experienced as much as lag as I did last night. So im wondering if future chapters are going to be as bad as this? I dont want to take my surviving mesmer across if she is gonna die cos of a laggy server. Is this a cost cut measure, or simply to many people playing (In which case we need more servers )?

There's a Nightfall PVP preview weekend going on right now, which is probably the best explanation for the lag... but neither me, nor my guildies are experiencing any abnormal lag, so I'd question your connection/computer in this specific case.

Same for me. No one I know is complaining about abnormal lag.

Is there any "normal" lag?

It's probably not lag, but low fps. My computer struggles with Factions areas. Prophecies is smooth as ever, but in Factions I frequently get stuttering.

As Carth said, it's probably low Frames Per Second.

Post your PC specs and we might be able to help more...

A couple friends and I were playing Guild Wars at a local PC cafe and experienced some pretty bad lag while loading into zones and soemtimes entire Heros Ascent matches in general. And if a dual bonded T1 is getting lag, then there's no hope for any of us.

Enter the game, in this case Guild Wars, and see how your computer matches up. Both my PC and the cafe's PC were at the top of the graph, so imo this time around it's all on Anet due toa ll the people playing and downloads going on durign the weekend event.

There are wide-spread complaints about lag, during EVERY event which features new content. The majority of these complaints come from people who are on the wrong server or their computer is crap.

I did a scan and my comp was top of the scale for the game, so i don't see what's the problem!

Are there any other tools of that kind?

When I ran that I got:

Of course there is lag right now. The faster your connection normally is, the more obvious it is that, as of now, there is a delay between you clicking a button and something happens - I'd say I'm presently having a "ping" of about 250 - 400ms. Normally I have no such delay.
There's also a lot more rubberbanding going on than normal (that's when you think you're going somewhere, and then *snap* you're back where you were a few seconds ago).

As others have said this is pretty much normal for the vastly greater server loads during events like the present Nightfall PvP preview event, and will hopefully disappear by monday.

same here.
Since Friday, HA, RA adn similar things are just a slideshow for me. Dunno why, but FPS drops on 4,5 (i had normal 30-40), and it's completely unplayable. I've tryed to lower graphics, but i have same result on max or on lowest version of it.
I really dont know what is going on, but i hope it's only weekend event lag.

If you were in PvP zones then its due to the number of people playing this free weekend.

If it was outside zones (term used loosely) around Keineng, its probably FPS lag, rather than connection lag, and is therefore your end issue, play with your settings, its annoying but unless u have a really high end PC, with all the skill actions, decals and what not being thron around in such a graphically high demanding area your going to experience FPS lag with normal settings.

Get more RAM, seriously. I don't really get lag in this game, what you describe may have nothing to do with your connection.

I think there may be server side problems rather than 'FPS' lag. I've been having a few issues with rubber-banding, err 007s and the dreaded skill activation delay. I haven't played any PvP during the event so this was only in PvE zones and the problems only appeared in the last few days.

It'll probably sort itself out once the event is over as there won't be so many people on at once.
